Wood, Karen Denise -
Tullahoma - A memorial service for Mrs. Karen Denise Wood, age 61, of Tullahoma, TN, will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Coffee County Community Room located at 1329 McArthur St. in Manchester. Mrs. Wood passed from this life at her residence on Sunday, December 29, 2019.
Karen was born in Knoxville, TN to the late Otha and Jean Smelser. She was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. She loved to sew and collect clocks throughout the years. Karen will be remembered as a wonderful person who never met a stranger. But she will especially be remembered as a loving mother.
Karen is survived by two sons, W. Wesley Wood and Timothy P (Alicia) Wood both of Tullahoma; two brothers, Michael (Betty) Smelser of Bremen, GA and Tony (Debra) Shirk of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Charlotte (Todd) Bearden of Jeffersonville, IN.
From her son Timothy:
On the 29th of December my mother Karen Wood passed away. She was a strong and loving soul. She was the type of person who didn't have friends. For the people who were close enough to call her friend just know She called you family. She was the type of person that tried to shield the world from pain and suffering by taking it on to herself. She was never one to see anyone go hungry. I remember several occasions when she would do without just to make sure my brother and I as well as others would have what was needed. She was a single mom that wasn't able to work because of our psychological problems, but yet by some miracles that I will never understand she always found a way. She devoted her life to her children and was always willing to sacrifice everything to ensure our well being. She always said that we were her miracles. It never seemed to matter what kind of Hell we put her through she would always have a loving embrace for us. She has lived a lifetime of pain and suffering and was never one to fear death because she knew she was going home. Now her time of suffering is over and God has reached down to take his child home. May she live in the kingdom of heaven at his side as well as in our hearts for all eternity. I love you mom, and I will miss you everyday for what remains of my life.
Charlotte Bearden says:
