Tullahoma - Funeral services for Mr. Oscar Gentry Cates, age 89, of Tullahoma, TN, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Tullahoma Funeral Home with Brother William Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Mr. Cates was escorted to heaven by God’s angels on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
Throughout his life, he was employed at Wilson’s Sporting Goods in Tullahoma, TN before retirement. He faithfully attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Tullahoma, where is also served as deacon. His dedication and faithfulness to serving the Lord and being father who loved his family unconditionally was his greatest attribute here on this earth. He lived his life loving and serving Christ. We know he is now home and has been reunited with his wife and family and they are now walking the streets of gold with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Frances Cates, mother Ottie Cates and father Coy Cates, Sr.; brothers Coy Cates Jr, Bill Cates, Jim Cates; sisters Virginia Fowler, Frances Cagle, Nadine Cates, and Dorothy Merritt; son n’ law Willis Johnny Welch. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Cates Welch of Shelbyville, Rita Cates Barnes of Adrian, MI, Melody Cates Kinzer (Vernon) of Lewisburg, and son Gerald Lee Cates (Diana) of Smyrna, and grandchildren Ryan Enfinger (Michelle) of Shelbyville, Troy Enfinger (Gay) of Shelbyville, Julie Enfinger Fuston (Danny) of Shelbyville and Heather Ann Welch of Shelbyville, Penni Jones (Justin) and Scott Barnes (Dawn) of Adrian, Michigan, Karri Jett (Jonathan), and Amy Baylor (David) of Lewisburg, and Candice Claiborne (Matthew) of Mt. Juliet; several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Our hearts are broken but we rejoice with our Dear Uncle Oscar. We know he is happy to be united with his dear Clara and to meet his Lord Jesus Christ. We will hold his memory close to our heart.
