Fred had six of his songs published and sold copyrights to three gospel songs. He had shows on five different radio stations including WJIG in Tullahoma for three and half years. He would later record an album of his own songs with Graham Records in South Pittsburg, titled “I Just Thought You Liked to Know”.

Tanya “Ray” Aldridge says:

I lived across the street from Fred and John many years ago .... Fred was very pleasant, caring and thoughtful.... he was such a kind and gentle soul. My prayers go out to all the remaining family and friends of this sweet man . Heaven gained a great Angel when he entered ..... thanks for the memories, laughs, smiles and kindness you showed me so very long ago . Take your eternal rest , it is well deserved ....

Thomasina Poe Simmons says:

There will never be another Fred Ray! Fred and my granny Effie were cousins that were more like brother and sister. Fred had a heart of gold and he will be missed.

Myrtle says:

Funny! Oh my goodness he was so incredibly funny. Fred collected phonograph records and so did I so we were good running mates for many years. We had lots of excursions and lots of experiences. We laughed a lot and we also fought like brothers. It's too bad he was never tapped for his historical information. He had an incredible memory and knew everything about everybody in town for the last 70 years. He didn't know a stranger. Had no fear. Would walk up to a total stranger and start a conversation. He was very giving and had a good heart. Bless him, he was just lost and miserable the last 25 years since John passed away. Now they can be together again. Music was his life. I hope somebody holds onto all the songs he wrote that are in a book on a shelf in his closet. He could play guitar and piano. He took care of his Mother Thelma until she died. He took care of his niece Shirley and had her living with him until she had to go to the nursing home. He never suffered the slings and arrows of anybody's comments. He lived his life exactly as he wanted to which is more than some of us can hope for. He was true to his self and everybody around him. He was definitely a one of a kind and there will never be another Fred. And I'm going to sign my name as he called me for a blue million years.

Johnny Swann says:

I am so sorry for your loss. I was not aware of his passing till now. Fred was a great friend of the Swann family on Hillwood RD. He spent many a time visiting my parents when they were alive and was a great friend of my late brother Glendale Swann. I enjoyed the stories he would tell about his life in Tullahoma. He will be missed by a lot of people. May GOD reach with HIS almighty hand to comfort the family. I knoe Fred is at peace and no longer in pain.
