Bettis, Christine Thornton -
Tullahoma - On October 31, 2018 Mrs. Christine Thornton Bettis, age 89 of Tullahoma, TN entered into rest at Life Care Center of Tullahoma. Christine played collegiate basketball and softball at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. Mrs. Bettis retired from the Tullahoma City School System in 1986 after 30 years of service. She was a Physical Education teacher, basketball coach and cheerleader sponsor. After retirement she and husband moved to Ellenton, FL.
Mrs. Bettis is preceded in death by her parents Palmer and Alma Thornton; husband, Ray Bettis; brothers, Baxter Thornton, Robert Thornton, and Judson Thornton; sisters, Nancy Thornton and Faye Thornton Greene. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Bettis Scoggins of Tullahoma; sister, Marie Goforth of Wears Valley, TN; grandchildren, Hunter Scoggins and Rachel Scoggins both of Nashville, TN; a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Chestnut Hill, TN where Mrs. Bettis was raised.

To the Bettie family and Kay,
I am so sorry for your loss. I had no idea your mom was I’ll. Alzheimer’s is such a devastating disease. My mother, Maxine Staffino is 92 and has Alzheimer’s and totally helpless living in NHC FACILITY in Tullahoma.
Such a wicked disease. I know what you went thru with the long goodbye! I loved your mom in physical education. Her classes were fun and challenging. She will be missed by many

Coach Bettis was an encourager to me. She always believed in her students. She knew how good we could be if we would just try. She never seemed to give up. I'm grateful to have known her.

Only met her and her husband once. I have very special memories in my heart of their daughter, Kay. My mom died of Alzheimer's as well. My thought and prayers are with Kay and her children.
