Carden, Milner Russell -

Tullahoma - Mr. Milner Russell (Coach) Carden of Tullahoma passed this life on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the age of 85. Milner was born on August 28, 1930 in Noah, TN to the late John Russell and Miriam Milner Carden. Raised in the Noah community of rural Coffee County, he joined the Navy in the middle of his college career at Middle Tennessee State College. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Middle Tennessee State College in 1957. Upon graduation, he and his beloved bride, Martha Whitehurst Carden from Columbia, moved to Tullahoma, TN where both of them began long and distinguished careers in education at East Junior High School and then later at East Middle School and Tullahoma High School. Milner also began a long coaching career in the fields of football, track, and cross-country. Milner was also an avid antique collector, timber cutter, lumber stacker, and a pretty good joke teller. He is survived by his wife Martha; one daughter, Beth Watson; and two granddaughters, Savannah Watson and Paris Watson; one sister, Arlena Nickle; two brothers, Bill Carden of Noah, and John Emory Carden of Manchester; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Thomas Carden and James Render Carden. Milner donated his body to Vanderbilt University for the furtherance of medical and scientific study. Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 19 at the First United Methodist Church, where Milner was a 58-year member, from noon until 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206 North Hollywood, CA 91607, First United Methodist Church of Tullahoma, or your favorite charity.
