Rogers, William Eldon -
Elkton - William Eldon Rogers, age 85, died at his daughter's home in Pomona Park, FL on Saturday, October 11, 2008 following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born August 9, 1923, in Elkton, Tennessee to the late Elsie and Willa Francis Rogers. Eldon served in the US. Army, in the 324th Infantry Regiment during WWII. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was awarded the purple heart, and the silver star for his heroic service. He was married to Nellie Marie Woodard of Pulaski, Tennessee in 1949.
In 1956, Eldon and Marie moved from Pulaski to Tullahoma. Eldon worked at AEDC retiring after 30 years. After retirement Eldon and Marie opened their antique business, Early Attic Antiques in Tullahoma.
Eldon was a member of Grundy Street Church of Christ where he served many years as a Deacon and was known for his work in the area of benevolence.
For many years Eldon coached little league baseball and eventually became president of the league. The little league field is now named William E. Rogers Field.
Eldon is survived by Rita Parker, his daughter, Mike & Philip Rogers, his sons; 6 grandchildren, Rebecca Cruz, Christopher Rogers, Tracy Wilson, Joshua Rogers, Ashley Booker, & John Forrest Rogers; 5 great grandchildren, Addyson Rogers, Samuel Cruz, Isabella Booker, Haley and Logan Wilson; one sister, Willa Mae Anders.
Visitation will be Monday, October 13, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tullahoma Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, at Grundy Street Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
