Neal, James Clayton -
Moore County - James Clayton "Tuffy" Neal, age 86, peacefully departed this life to be with his Savior on Saturday, November 08, 2008 after an extended journey with Alzheimer's at his home in the Turkey Creek Community of Moore County.
Mr. Neal was born March 24, 1922 to John William Neal and Lucy Louella (Miles) Neal at their home in the Ridgeville Community of Moore County, Tennessee, both preceding him in death.
He was a 1939 graduate of Moore County High School. He married Betty Jean Boswell of Paris, Texas on December 28, 1945 in Rome Georgia.
Mr. Neal served in the United States Army from December 1942 until December 1945. He was a communications technician for the 251st field artillery of the 6th army. Mr. Neal took part in the invasion and liberation of both New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII.
He was retired from Wilson Sporting Goods in Tullahoma, Tennessee where he served numerous terms as President of Local Union 231 of the AFL/CIO. Mr. Neal was a faithful and loved member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Tullahoma. He was known for his fervent desire to share his faith. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and was known throughout the community for his gardening skills.
Mr. Neal is survived by his wife Betty of Turkey Creek, his daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Jerry Rogers of Tullahoma, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Mary Neal of Turkey Creek, very special son Curtis Neal of Turkey Creek, a sister Dorothy Bailey of Runnemede, New Jersey, 7 grand children, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Neal was preceded in death by his brothers Lonnie, Basil, and Tommy Neal, sisters Johnnie Ruth Neal and Mae (Neal) Edwards and beloved grandson Jeremy Chad Rogers.
The family will begin receiving friends at 5:30 PM Monday, November 10 at the Tullahoma Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 11, at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Baptist Church in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Dr. Jim Rolen officiating. Mr. Neal will lie-in-state at the church beginning at 12:00 noon. He will be laid to rest at the Ridgeville Cemetery in the Ridgeville Community.
